If you own a four wheel drive, and you really want to "get out there" and explore some of this great country, I'd love you to join me on a 4WD Tag-a-Long Tour. Simmo's Offroad Tours regularly conduct exciting four wheel drive tag along tours across the Central West of New South Wales, including Hill End, Sofala, the Capertee Valley, Kanangra Boyd National Park and the Jenolan Caves, Abercrombie and Oberon areas. Most of my tours depart from either Bathurst or Lithgow, just over the Blue Mountains, within a few hours drive of Sydney.
Tag-a-Long Tours are a great way to travel with like-minded people who also enjoy picturesque and challenging 4WD tracks whilst visiting new and interesting places - all in the safety of their own vehicle, in a convoy with others, led by an accredited and experienced local guide. I enjoy sharing a bit of the local history and triva along the way, so if you don't happen to own a UHF radio I am happy to lend you a handheld UHF unit for the day...
My tag along tours are generally graded as "easy" to "medium", depending on the conditions, and are suitable for stock standard four wheel drives. Weather and track conditions do vary considerably however, so basic recovery gear should be carried in your vehicle - just incase your vehicles loses traction and you require some assistance.
Simmo's Offroad Tours is fully licensed through the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service to guide you through some spectacular National Parks and wilderness areas across this State. I am constantly developing new and exciting Tag-a-Long Tours, ranging from single day trips out of Sydney, through to extended Camping Safaris in the NSW Outback - so please, visit here often to see what's coming up soon.
Of course if you are a member of a social group or club, I would be pleased to guide your group on a specially put together 4WD Tag-a-Long Tour.
The following tag along tours are available now, so please Contact Me if you wish to secure a spot, or to find out a little more...
4WD TAG-A-LONG TOUR EXPLORING HILL END & SOFALA
Next Tour Date: Sunday 19th February 2012
This very scenic and interesting day tour is rated generally "Easy" to "Medium", depending on conditions, and your choice of track on the day. This tour is well suited for stock standard four wheel drive vehicles, but more challenging tracks and great river crossings are available as an option if you are keen to test your skills and your vehicle is up to the challenge!
Departing Bathurst on Sunday morning the 19th February 2012, we visit the historic gold mining townships of Hill End and Sofala, exploring some lovely and sometimes challenging sections of the famous Bridle Track alongside the Macquarie and Turon Rivers. Whilst in Hill End we visit the History Hill underground mine and museum, we visit the Bald Hill Lookout, and the NSW National Parks Visitor Centre. We can try gold panning, or simply stroll around this idyllic, historic village to discover what life was like in the gold rush days of the 1860's.
There are several lovely dining options for lunch, including the beer garden of the famous Royal Hotel (built 1872), the Hill End Lodge, Rose Cottage, or Hosie's Cafe and ol' lolly shop (great for the kids!). Or you may of course prefer to bring your own lunch and we can boil the billy down by the river somewhere...
Cost: $150 per vehicle, and $10 for each adult passenger (children are free)
These costs include NSW National Parks fees, entry to History Hill underground mine and museum, afternoon tea, use of gold pans, and use of a UHF radio and Recovery Gear if required.

4 DAY/3 NIGHT CAMPING SAFARI EXPLORING THE CENTRAL WEST GOLDFIELDS
Next Tour Date: Friday 16th March to Monday 19th March 2012
This is a 4WD Tag a Long Camping Safari designed for those that have their own four wheel drive and Camping equipment, and are pretty much self-sufficient. We will be setting up a base camp in the Central West area for the 3 nights, and exploring some great 4WD tracks across the Ophir, Hill End, and Sofala goldfields during the day. The grade of each days 4WD trip will generally be "Easy" to "Medium" - depending on conditions at the time and track options we decide as a group. You can take things easy if you like, but choose more difficult tracks if you have a keen sense of adventure!
Our base camp will be alongside a running stream in the goldfields region, so bring your fishing rod (fishing licence required), canoe, kayak, gold pans and your sense of adventure with you! I always have a bit of extra gear on hand so there will be plenty to do.
But I reckon nights are best. It's a time for the group to gather around the camp fire, sharing stories, or maybe even swap recipes as we show off our camp cooking skills. A glass of a local cool-climate wine doesn't go astray either!
During our 4WD day trips we'll visit the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Visitor Information Centre, History Hill goldmining museum, and explore some of the old gold-diggings, mine shafts and tunnels scattered about the area. A cold beer at the Royal Hotel in the historic little village of Hill End is also a must do!
Please note this Tag-a-Long camping safari is self-catered. Each vehicle is expected to have their own camping equipment and provide their own meals. I do have some extra equipment however - so if you are short in some area please feel free to contact me.
If you do not have your own four wheel drive, or Camping gear, you may prefer to book one of my fully-catered "private charter" Camping Adventures - where all the work is done for you!
Cost: $400 per vehicle for the 4 Days/3 Nights.
Includes NSW National Parks and Wildlife entrance & camping fees, entrance to History Hill Underground Mine and museum.

This tour is rated "Easy" to "Medium" depending on the conditons on the day, and the the tracks we choose as a group.

We'll visit the famous Glow Worm Tunnels of the old Wolgan Railway network and explore the ruins of the historic oil shale mines of the Newnes area.
Please note, the glow worm tunnels are a sensitive area within the Wollemi National Park. No flash photography is permitted in the tunnels, and torches must not be directed at the glow worms, unless fitted with a red filter.
